FALSE ATTACHMENT or merger
A merger or false attachment occurs when a background object is directly in front or behind a subject. If there are multiple subjects, a merger can also occur if both main subjects overlap with each other or touch the sides of the picture frame
In this shot, clearly the pole is "falsely attached" to the subjects head. There are several ways to correct a false attachment:
- Move the camera
- Move the subject
- Move the location
Giraffes shouldn't have two heads. The photographer created an unintentionally merger here.
Here the merger is created intentionally.
